I think I have made a mistake on purchasing a Corsair H50 to cool an Intel Core i5-4670 (I am not overclocking)... Should I return the cooler and purchase something more recommended?

Why do you think you made a mistake?

If you're looking for a cheaper solution, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is half the price and works very well, or even cheaper is the Hyper TX3. The TX3 isn't as good as the 212, but works well for non-OC chips.
