Hi! I'm going to explain this as fast as possible. I got a 760 in a sale for my new rig. The DirectCU II one. It can boost up to 1293Mhz with stock power and temp limit, totally stable and never go beyond 75°C.

A friend wants to buy my 760, and he can pay me the same money I paid for the card, and with that money I can get the Asus DirectCU II R9 280.

The question: What's better? Stay with the less power draw less VRAM lucky 760 or take the risk and buy the R9 280. I could also wait for the new Maxwell cards but I would be without any gpu while I wait.

Thanks :)

You won't really see much performance increase. So there isn't a point of swapping.

I don't understand this, your friend is willing to pay the full price of a GTX 760....so why can't he get one himself?

r9 280 is a better card than the gtx 760 performance wise oc i think the gtx is more stable..

@Suzteta I got my 760 in a sale, so I asked him the sale price (it's $20 less than the normal price).

So the difference isn't that much to swap my card?

All i see is R9 280X OC. A R9 280 OC will never reach that.
A R9 280 performs similar to a GTX 760.

yes the r9 280 is behind the 280x but better than the gtx 760 the 7950 is old model of the 280 and 280 has higher clock speed than the previous 7950 so i will say r9 280x will give 5-7 fps more than the r9 280..

But we talking about the R9 280 not the R9 280X against the GTX 760. They are both similar therefore getting a R9 280 for the OP isn't worth it since it has no performance increase. Some games will be more optimized for AMD and vice versa for Nvidia.
I agree the R9 280X is better than the GTX 760 but that's not what the thread is originally about.

no the r9 280 is better than the gtx 760 you can say its a stands between the 280x and 760 as i have mentioned in my post above...r9 280 is a under clocked version of the 280x ...

Just because one games offers more fps for the R9 280 than the GTX 760 doens't make it better.
As I said before, different games favour one or the other.

Different games favour one or the other. Those benchmarks you linked were more AMD optimized.
They perform similarly.

Since he already got the GTX 760 and it works, no point swapping it for a R9 280. He can save his money for a future gpu upgrade that will be more beneficial in increasing fps perofrmance.

Dammit. I'm not going to spend any extra money on the 280. My friend is going to give me 20 extra for building his PC, installing OS and all that stuff plus the money of the 760.

So I should keep my 760?

It's my first build, I don't have lots of money so I don't plan to upgrade anything in 3 years or even more, that's why I thought that the extra GB of VRAM can be useful in the future...

Oh :(  Now I will have to tell him that he's screwed now. I thought that the 280 really is better than the 760 because of this review: http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/...
