I apologize if this is in the wrong subforum but it seemed like the best place for it. Ive been through several computer chairs, the one i have is great but the synthetic leather is starting to peel off, esp on the armrests and seat area. Im looking for a computer chair that is at least somewhat comfortable but mostly is robust. The chair i had before had a plastic frame for the backing and it completely snapped in two when i was leaning back one day, not to mention the foam armrests were falling apart. I should mention that im a gamer, i dont sit on a couch at the end of the day i sit in my computer chair, so it gets used quite a bit.

that is the trouble with most office chairs you can buy for under $300. most are junk which fall apart. i've been there so i feel your pain. my current chair is half destroyed and the only thing keeping it upright are bolts i had to add when the originals pulled out.

typically a chair is trashed in less than a year for me and i'm not all that hard on them.

instead of having a solid subframe most chairs are built with a plywood back and plywood seat which are only connected by bolts which go through the armrests and into the side of the plywood. now i'm sure i do not need to tell you how brittle plywood can be or why these bolts pull out of the cheap fasteners they use. on top of that we have the issue with cheap padding and cheap seat...

all i can suggest is to stay away from all of the thick cushy pleather chairs and to instead look for something wit ha mesh back with metal arms or subframe. while it might not be as comfortable as a padded chair... it may last longer.

herman miller chairs are built to last and are high quality however are also $$$

the needforseat racing inspired seats are also a bit $$$ but have a metal subframe and the usa division of NFS uses only versions with metal legs ontop of the fact that they have a metal subframe.
