to make that g3258 worth it you really have to overclock it, and i wouldn't recommend that to someone that doesn't have as much experience building and tinkering with pc's

just don't expect an equivalent pc hardware to perform like the console. consoles are dedicated gaming machine, developers code based on a single hardware, unlike in pc where there are soo many hardware combinations

Thank you all for your input so far. If possible, it would be nice to have the opinion of a few more people to compare. Personally, I like i7Baby's response saying that they are about the same, but obviously if this isn't true, I'd like to know.

To make an FX-6300 worth it, it would also need to be overclocked. They have poor performance in anything AMD doesn't throw money at, at stock clocks.

There are certain profiles on Asrock motherboards to allow it to be overclocked easily , specifically the Anniversary edition to be clocked @4.2 Ghz so I know exactly what I am talking about and tutorials are plenty of them on the youtube so it wouldn't be a problem.

Instead of the FX-6300, get an i3-4130.

And instead of that weak-sauce R7 card, get this GTX 750Ti: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The i3 will outperform the FX in almost all games, and the GTX 750Ti will allow you to play all games at 1080p at higher framerates than either "next-gen" console.

I agree, to an extent.
The i3-4130 does outperform an FX-6300 in most/practically all games.
And my GTX 750 Ti is holding higher resolutions and higher settings in multiplats than the X1 or PS4.

However, an R7 260X is cheaper than a 750 Ti, doesn't perform much worse, and will still fall midway between a PS4 and X1. Probably the better option on the person's original budget.

just to reiterate, you might build a rig with similar specs to a console, but they wont perform as well as the console for the reason already mentioned

That would have been more true last-gen with the PS3 using cell tech and the 360 devoting a special core to lossless 2xQ. It's still sort of true, especially on the CPU side, but on the GPU/APU side the current gen consoles are so close to PCs that we're already getting a lot of the benefits of any optimization done in multiplatform console ports, particularly AMD cards much as I hate to admit it, given that their TDPs are higher than I'd like.

Last gen, even early last gen, you'd have seen the PS3 rated at fewer Tflops than several PC GPUs, yet pushing graphics significantly above that. Not so much anymore. And as console optimization improves, we'll be catching DX12 and Mantle, which will offset the console's optimization nearly blow for blow in the games that use them.

I've seen quite a few AAA PS4 games, and so far, really not impressed. The GTX 750 Ti or R7 265 are quicker, and it shows.

Really? I'd pay the extra $12 just for Nvidia's Control Panel...
