I am thinking about purchasing a wireless PCI adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0034CL2ZI/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0T9QK7DW5MCA44QD3P3N&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846), but I am not even sure if it will improve anything. Currently, my download speed is around 7.5 Mb/s, while my laptop and brother's desktop have speeds up to 16 Mb/s. My computer is in another room with the desktop facing towards the router (as in the front is facing towards the router). I am using a Belkin N150 Wireless USB Adapter. What can I do to improve my wireless connection? Also, my router is NETGEAR Router WGR614v10.

Solution
The main thing you can do is replace your router. Your current router (NETGEAR Router WGR614v10) is a wireless G router with a max link rate of 54Mb/s wireless. That link rate will support actual data throughput rates of around 16Mb/s max. That is if the signal is real strong and there is little interference. A wireless N or AC router would help a great deal. Even if you got an inexpensive wireless N router, then your link with your current Belkin N150 adapter could support a max link rate of 150Mb/s with actual data throughput rates of around 45Mb/s (max).
