So I recently finished my new build ,no OS yet, and I have an old 80gb ps3 hard drive. So I connected it via sata cable and turned on my pc and it gave me the Reboot and Select proper Boot device error and wouldn't go away until i shut my pc off, disconnected the hard drive, and rebooted. but with no drive I can't do anything! Also if there is a way to format a drive thorugh the bios please tell me. And my mother board is a Gigabyte GA Z-97N WiFi if it helps. Please if anyone knows help me

Solution
I assume you need to format the dive and install windows (or whatever OS you want). I also assume you are installing windows (or other OS) via DVD. 1, re install the HDD into your machine.

2, Press the power button on your machine then hit the DEL or F2 (or whatever key it shows) to get into BIOS.

3, In bios you will find an option to change your primary boot device or an option to change the order of your boot devices.

4, You want to set your first device as your DVD drive (or USB stick if installing from USB), then your second devise as the Hard drive.

5, Insert your windows DVD then save and exit bios.

6, Your machine will now boot and read the DVD drive first, if installing windows you will see a message saying press any key...

6, Your machine will now boot and read the DVD drive first, if installing windows you will see a message saying press any key to boot cd (or something like that). When you see this then hit any key.

7, You will see some files loading in then you will get to the windows setup screen.

8, Follow the instructions until you get to the part where you are selecting which drive windows is installed to. You can format the drive here (there will be an option for it).

9, Follow the instructions and windows will install.

10, Your machine will auto reboot, when it does remove the DVD or just ignore the press any key to boot from CD. Windows will then continue to set up.

11. Wait for install then update ect, once done you can change the boot order back in bios or just leave it. If you do leave it though you will get the boot from CD message if you leave a DVD/CD in the drive when you boot your machine.

I hope that helps and makes sense.
