Could be a memory problem. When did this start occurring?

For now run Windows Memory Diagnostic. Start > search box > memory

I don't think windows xp has a memory diagnostic tool. If you have a spare dvd or USB drive handy then I'd recommend Memtest86.

Just note that if you use a USB drive make sure you copy everything off of it first as it will erase all the data on the drive.

Let it run for about 3 passes. (also you might want to do this at night time as it can take quite a few hours)
