so am planning on taking the i5 4690 with the 1150 socket, to have 1 GPU and to take an ATX form factor Mobo and to use it for gaming.
but what chipsets should i consider and what manufacturer's mobo is considered reliable?

the z boards will do all you want as far as brands they all got there good and bad I'm using asrock now but you need to look at ease of support and how well its being supported .. like msi there site is just a mess to me and can lack info I would fell necessary and way too hyped up for my liking [opinion] I tend to stay away from new boards the seem to be getting too many bios updates as in if I see this board that's been out only 4 months and its got 7 bios updates and a equal board from another brand board been out 6 months with 3 updates makes me wonder if theres a stability issue with the 4 month old board [opinion]

you just got to do the homework on what fits your needs and choose one and hope its not a lemon
good luck

i did do some homework and im still doing it by asking this community.
i wanted to know what brands are reliable to mark out motherboards that will eventually be used to kill insects

well you can buy the one that has all the best reviews and get it just to find its not nothing they claim or the one you got has issues in some way to me gigabyte and asrock seem fine my last 3 asus boards were not so good and were short lived [opinion] its all a roll of the dice what works super well for me may not for you

Asrock makes good stuff but most of the boards I have used have been Biostar, MSI and Asus. I tend to lean towards MSI and Asus. As JunkeyMonkey says, you can never know because even a well respected brand can give you a dud. But generally speaking MSI, Asus and Asrock seem to have the best reputations. Personally I like the MSI Bios layout, its very functional. As for website and ease of support, I would say Asus has the edge, I have the least experience with Asrock but I currently have my next build specced out using one of their boards so I will have more information in a few months :)

could be ?? or its a bunch of lame brains that fell for the hype and thinks its cool and gave it a 5 egg review on that with out using it for a month or so to really see if its all that first.. like this asrock it was not a top reviewed board and folks wrote in issues on it most were self inflicted and not the boards fault ,but this board had everything on it that I needed where the outher brands had removed these things from theres so that made them no good for me so in the end it was between the gigabyte z87 ud4 or this asrock z87 exe 6 well the giga board went up $25 and this asrock went on sale so I went asrock and so far been well pleased with it -0- issues

Actually the advice I was giving him was based on personal experience. I wasn't judging those companies based on how many reviews they got but rather the fact that I have built almost 50 computers so far and those are the brands that I typically use so I can report that those brands typically put out good stuff.

yes that's true but then theres the what if. as in what if you change your mind on oc or what if you want to x-fire or sli its all up to you its like do I but the car with the v8 or the 6 banger and save $35

don't know its all about personal preference I just try to get the best board that fits all my needs at the best price point and will handle any down the road upgrading with out feeling the need to rebuy another board to do so

Very true. I have learned over the years that its better to lean on the side of what if. Granted The newer the tech, the more lopsided the price tag becomes but within reason its usually better to give yourself a little upgrade room. The difference between H and Z boards is not extreme. on average about $20. In some cases there was as little as $7 difference between an H97 and Z97 board and both were from the same company.

I used them all myself I got good ones and 1 or 2 lemons , but that's just how it is bottom line is who got what I need at the time I do the build at a price point .. if asus got what I feel is the one then i'll get it or it maybe gigabyte. this time it was asrock next time it maybe msi .. I'm not any brand fan boy but I am a fan of a build that comes together and fires up stable and works with out issues
