I am trying decide whether to buy a gtx 770 or r9 280x in hopes of them working with remotefx in hyper-v and hoping to game with them in VMs while utilizing directx.

I have heard of a couple success stories of consumer grade graphics card working fine in 2012 or 2008 server hyper-v with remotefx, such as the gtx 450 or gtx 460 ( i think), gtx 650, maybe some radeon cards.

Since these are older cards I was wondering if there were anymore recent cards that should or have been known to work fine with hyper-v and remotefx under windows server 2008-2012

Right, so what's officially confirmed and supported by manufactuers is the enterprise line of graphics cards such as quadro, grid, and amd's counterparts.

From what I understand is that the quadro and the geforce series share the same architecture even same pcb and because of that the geforce can even have their softstraps modded to be recognized as a quadro.

A big concern for me is since I will be using the vms for very low gaming applications that will use directx I thought and also read it was better to use consumer grade geforce since they are usually faster than their quadro equivalents. Example being a quadro 6000 is actually a tad slower than a gtx 480, but you could buy a gtx 480 for about 100 dollars or less while the lowest amount of money for buying a quadro 6000 is 600 used.

Instead of attempting to mod and probably botching up a graphics card I was wondering and read else where without any mods there have been some consumer grade graphics cards that worked fine within 2008 or 2012 server with hyper-v and remotefx

In all of these examples you will read or watch different indivuduals use consumer grade graphics cards with remotefx:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2011/01/17/using-hyper-v-for-a-high-end-desktop-computer.aspx - gtx 480 (this guy even talks about playing games with it such as Fallout 3, Blur, Torchlight, Civilization V, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Street Fighter IV)

Here is a video of someone on youtube playing halo 2 with his older consumer graphics card with remotefx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYiLGxfZRTA

All of these are using really old graphics cards which is too little for what I need, so I was asking if anyone knew or had any success newer or more powerful cards such as with a gtx 770 or r9 280x
