Hello everyone. I am building a new PC for a friend. I was wondering why is the XFX R9 290x 200 dollars cheaper than the Asus one? I never really understood what the brand means on cards. Don't they all perform the same? The local PC store only sells XFX or Asus AMD cards. They are both r9 290x's, but the prices are 200 dollars in difference. Why is this? Safe links to both cards.

XFX https://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=614145&CategoryID=259

Asus https://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=614524&CategoryID=259

Thank you! I look forward to your replies.

ASUS is better than XFX when it comes to graphics cards.
Sapphire however,is the best for AMD cards.
Between the ASUS and the XFX,I would go with the ASUS.
It has better cooling and stock speeds.

Can I ask what are your other system specs? There may be some components I can change so you have a bit more money for your GPU. :)

Thanks pierrerock for that link. I may order the Saphire one then. XFX has lifetime warranty and if anything happens to the card the store is well known for replacing products on the spot. If I get the saphire card I will have to wait for months if something happened to it to send it away for warranty.

If you live in australia, you can get your PC for pcpartpicker.com
I can make you a build.
I have 2 questions:
1. Is the purpose of the PC ONLY gaming or does he do video editing, rendering, live streaming and stuff like that?
2. Is he going to Crossifre or SLI in the future?

Hey LukaBoki. I already got most his parts. I have always been confused with GPU's since they have so many brands. I just want a good single card GPU for now. Thank you everyone for your replies. Also he may get another card in a years time if he decides to do SLI/XFIRE.

The case he has does have AMAZING cooling. It is a coolermaster Cosmos 2 full tower case. I also bought multiple extra fans. I tested my old r9 280 card and its idle temperatures were around 25 degrees c. I am thinking heating will not be a problem if I get the XFX card.

You can go with the XFX,its not too bad.
You can OC it but that won't help you unless you're playing a GPU intensive game.Same goes with the CPU.
It's great that he has extra fans.It will provide better airflow,as well keep your components cool. :)

Argh! I may go with the saphire one then. If he chooses to go crossfire in the future does it have to be the exact same card like another saphire? Or any brand will work as long as it is a r9 290x? Thank you!

Actually scratch that. I may go with the Asus one that is in store. I am sure he wont mind the XFX one also. I can't be bothered ordering online. My store which is only a 10 minute drive from me has loads of XFX cards in stock. Not much of the asus ones, but if I do buy one I may try Asus first.
