Hello everyone!

Long time reading, first time asking!
First of all, thank you everyone, for so many Q&A. You are really useful to the world, helping people how to fix and configure their own equipment. You're all great! And now, it's my turn to do a Question (and who knows, maybe one day I'm able to give an answer too...).

Because of a recent problem with my laptop (SSD+HDD configuration), the HDD has died, so, I have two questions:

1) I am planing to buying a new 2.5-Inch, to put together my 125GB SSD in my laptop. I've planed to pay arround 100$ to the new drive. I'd like to ask you wether to buy an HDD or an SSHD drive.
My current options are:
HD
HGST Travelstar 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache
SSHD
Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive SATA 6Gbps 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch ST1000LM014
Is it worth to buy an SSHD instead of an HDD? Which one is better? Both of them cost arround 90$ in amazon. Do you suggest me to buy any of those in other place (not amazon?).

2) My HDD is still under warantee, so I was wondering If I would be able to buy a USB 3.0 To 2.5-Inch Sata to be able to use my current HDD (once that it's replaced by the warantee) as an external drive.

Thank you very much guys, any help would be highly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Barroman

1 - From that choice I would opt for the SSHD. I can't say as I've ever heard of the aforementioned brand of the standard HDD.

2 - Yes that's perfectly possible, you can buy hard drive enclosures that do exactly that - There are some speed limitations, you may also want to watch the heat output, external drives have a habit of being very short on the lifespan front, usually the cause of death is heat.

I'd personally always opt for reliability and general performance over something like that any day, but each to their own. The Seagate SSHDs use a very small portion with SSD-like performance, aside from that it's just a regular mechanical drive.

If the price has come down, one of those new-ish Western Digital Black2...

If the price has come down, one of those new-ish Western Digital Black2 drives might be decent, they make next to zero sense in a desktop, but for laptop use quite a bit.

Thank you very much! Fast reply!!!

That WD Black2 model looks awesome, but too pricey for me...

I know that the SSHD is almost a classic HDD... So, would you suggest me to go for a better HDD for that price instead of going for a SSHD?

What would you think about this one?
Western Digital 750 GB WD Black SATA III 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive WD7500BPKX in Amazon.

This will be my last question regarding this topic, I plan to acquire the Disk this very afternoon.
Thank you, Distello, again, for your fast response!!

Definitely. I love the black drives, they're fast and certainly reliable.
Planning to buy a second one myself in about a week.
