Strange Things in New Windows 7 64-bit Installation?

So about a day and a half ago, or perhaps 2 nights ago, I installed a fresh Windows 7 64-bit on the machine I just built. Things are fine. And snappy. But I've noticed a few oddities.

For example. I remember downloading, um... HW Monitor, I believe. After starting the install, it told me the source file was corrupted, so I aborted the installation. I then redownloaded the file, and everything is fine, it seems.

Another thing is that Steam has been having some issues. At first, I was able to install and update, but games wouldn't download. I figured uninstalling and reinstalling may help, but it didn't. In fact, the client will no longer update, and actually rolls BACKWARDS! This seems to be a problem with Steam itself, but it's just another oddity I've noticed.

Likewise, with my new fairly badass gaming rig, I figured I'd go for Planetside 2. Last night, I kept getting connection issues. I mean, that could be related to Sony's connection, rather than any issues with my OS or HDD, but when you combine these weird issues on a brand new computer/HDD, it just alarms me slightly. It has been downloading more reliably today. Most of it, in fact, has been in the last couple hours. Downloading the game files, I mean.

Oh, and two more things. One is the Nexon Launcher, which I installed and then started updating. I had to shut down before finishing, so that could have been the issue with that. Had to run out for something important. And another thing is strange/glitchy video streaming in Chrome. I've just downloaded Opera, which hopefully deals with the issue better than Chrome can.

But again, these are problems I've never had before, and since this is a new machine, it just alarms me slightly, and makes me think that maybe it's an issue with my HDD, or maybe some sort of fault in my installation. I'd rather fix the issue now, than later, y'know?

Perhaps it's this "Panda" usb wireless adapter that's leading to connection issues, but it hasn't been an issue in video streaming, and whatever else... It's all kind of strange, really.

Hopefully someone can make an educated guess about what is wrong, if anything, based off what I've described. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well, BIOS I assume is alright, so I haven't thought of touching it. Windows is pretty much completely updated, and basically, the first things I really did after install was install the drivers from the mobo disk and then I installed my GPU drivers/software.

I was getting a .dll error after finishing Planetside 2, but apparently it's a DirectX related issue, and I'd simply need older versions of it to get those missing files. But as far as Steam, and a couple other softwares I've tried to install since then, I haven't had much luck. Still can't update properly and I'm getting other .dll errors that suggest the files are corrupted, or may indicate a hardware failure, or something...

I'm not really sure how to make sense of this, or how to approach it at all, really. I'm not far in, so reinstalling everything would only take a couple hours, short of those large game downloads, which are worth it, providing I can get everything to work. :p

Could I try "repair windows" with my disk? I wonder if that could help, though I'd rather a clean install if that were the case.

Yeah, I figure they pretty much all are. But could that really be giving me *these* types of problems? I think I'll backup the few important things I've done and try a repair, then maybe reinstall, I suppose, though I'll hold off until I can maybe learn more, or make a better decision overall.

Actually, another indicator... Of perhaps, a bad HDD. I just downloaded a file and it said something about an NSIS check, and how the downloaded data was corrupted or damaged, or something. The only thing I'd connect that to, as a noob, is an HDD. Would I be right?
