I recently switched out my CPU in my HTPC to a Q9550 i noticed something i have not seen before core 1 and 4 were much hotter than 2 and 3 .I tried putting on new thermal paste twice and still the same thing .I even switched coolers from a arctic cooling freezer 7 to a corsair H80 .Here are some temps from the h80.

idle
core 1 - 51c
core 2 - 34c
core 3 - 35c
core 4 - 54c

i tried running prime 95 and the CPU quickly reaches 85c and i shut it down. What is the normal temp and how hot can it get ? I had a Q6600 in this system before and the temp never got anywhere near 85c and it had arctic cooling freezer 7.

Solution
that is either a software glitch or bug, or a thermal paste issue. I'd reinstall your cpu monitoring software and also apply a new layer of thermal paste.
