Yes, but AMD has a bit more driver issues regarding crossifre. I don´t have crossfire myself so I don´t know how severe but I have a R9 290X wich is almost the same as an R9 290 and it is a great card, better then the Gtx 780.

I used to hear this a lot about AMD drivers, and based on my own personal experience, combined with some other things I've read over the last couple years, I believe that this is either a nVidia-fanboy-sourced rumor, or a crafty bit of PR by nVidia themselves.

The only driver issues I've encountered since 2001 have been with nVidia hardware. After years of random nv4disp.dll crashes with every nVidia card I'd used (encouraged by my best friend, an Intel/nVidia fanboy of the highest caliber) I decided to try an AMD video card. In the year I owned my 7850 1gb (XFX) I never had a driver or game crash. Not once. And after a year, I added a second 7850 1gb from XFX, and in the time since I've had the Crossfire setup, I've only had a game crash once. It was Fallout 3, installed to enjoy a fit of nostalgia, and it wasn't even the AMD driver that caused the crash, it was Fallout 3 not enjoying the prospect of trying to use 2 cards at once. A small hack to some .nfo file somewhere in the Fallout 3 folder fixed the issue.

The only issue I've heard of from other Crossfire users is that in some games there is a bit of microstutter here and there. I have not encountered it. But I've heard the same thing from nVidia SLI users as well.
