HTPC Build Advice

Hello!

I am going to build a home theater PC, and am hoping for some closure on my picks.

For the most part, the PC will run XMBC, Netflix, HULU, Amazon Prime and Windows Media Center to play videos from a media server, and the occasional indie game. Nothing huge.

GTX 780 for graphics processing unit is my suggestion. But what is your budget? Also look into the GTX 750.

This has to fit under my TV, and stay cool.
Why do you suggest a $500 GPU for a HTPC?

Just has to play movies seamlessly at 1080p, so i'm assuming an APU will do pretty well.

Is this correct?

It's ok for a HTPC. Which indie games you may play?

It's always better to have a discrete graphics card, i recommend a R7 250 o 250X.

I've never used a slim case.
Will a GPU fit in one?

A small form factor is important to me in this build.

To make your build a bit more reliable, choose an FM2+ motherboard.

FM2+ will let you upgrade you APU to Kaveri or future Carrizo if ever want to.

Good point, didn't think of that.
Perhaps I should just make start with Kaveri?

I will try and find some benchmarks on the performance of the APUs.
