graphics display problem

Hi with my old computer i had a display problem.....the screen suddenly used to go black and come back on frequently ..as if someone is switching the monitor on and off.. (note:it did not give the vga unplugged error that we get when we unplug the vga connection ) i have setup a brand new motherboard with a ram and processor and graphics card now but i did not change the monitor and i am still getting that same problem only difference is that now when the display goes off and comesback it makes the sound of a usb device being unplugged and plugged back in ....it is a confusing situation for me and i recon the problem might be with the monitor cause the rest of the items have been replaced with brand new products but any help is very much needed
