What cores is enough

I've narrowed my next cpu down to two

http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX6300-Edition-4-1GHz-Socket/dp/B009O7YORK or http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX8320-Edition-4-0GHz-Socket/dp/B009O7YU56. You probably get this question a lot (sorry) but which is worth going for. I've also been told my mobo will hand them both but the second one may heat up my pc, so should I go with it or stay on the safe side with the fist one.

If you have a MB that accepts 125W processors, the FX-8320 will be the better choice unless you have a tiny case with no airflow. But you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and the FX-6300 in most games. It will depend on which gfx card is matched up with it.

With a fast card like that, I'd go with the FX-8320. Most games today and games being written now, support more than a single core. The FX-6300 is basically a 3 core processor with 2 integer units per core. The FX-8320 can be looked at as a quad core also with 2 integer units per core.

That's why I stipulated that the board has to accept 125W CPUs like the FX-8320/8350. And if you want to OC, be sure your board has heat syncs on the VRMs and chipsets. And solid caps at least for the power delivery system.

Also FYI, Cores don't mean faster processing.

Just because a car has 8 wheels doesn't mean it's faster than a car with 4 wheels. It more likely means it can haul a bigger load though. But if your loads are a few bags of groceries, why are you driving semi-truck?

Having a good cpu cooler has ZERO to do with the motherboard. You need a very stout motherboard with 8+2 phase power and heatsinked mosfets to run an 8320. If you don't have a board that meets this criteria don't get the 8320. It will throttle because the board can't handle its electrical requirements.

Lots of people favor the 6300 for just this. Two less cores mean less heat and usually a better overclock vs 8320/8350.

My mobo can take 125w, which I think is the requirements for the 8320
