Hi. My PC freezes when I'm playing games. Everything just stops and there's a buzzing sound. I can't do anything but restart my PC and when i do that, Windows won't start again unless i shut down computer and turn it on again.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate, AMD A6-3500 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 2100 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 3 Logical Processor(s)

Solution

That's a really horrid, cheap power supply and could be causing issues but the integrated graphics on your APU...

No not all games... I don't know how would i classify the games that freeze to me. At first i thought it only happens to newer games with bigger requirements but it also happens with older games. I must add that this never happened before, i could play any game but now even the games i used to play freeze.

I've opened my PC tower to check psu. I didn't know what is what so I'll just write everything i saw:

Blueberry Model: psb450

AC input: 220V - 50 Hz 3A, 115V - 60Hz 6A

Output: +5V +3.3V +12V -5V -12V +5 VSB
22.0A 15.0A 12.0A 0.5 A 0.8A 2.0A

That's a really horrid, cheap power supply and could be causing issues but the integrated graphics on your APU aren't exactly power hungry so it's probably not the cause.

Try to find out the temperature of your chip please. You could also try running Furmark to see how hot it gets.

Is it safe to use Furmark? I see lots of warnings...

If the temperature gets higher than 75-80 degrees celcius, stop the program running. Many people use it without problems. If you're worried just grab a copy of Speedfan (it's free here http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php) and go to the chart section at the end. Tick the box for CPU/core (the name can vary) and you will see it plots a graph of temperatures.

Load up a game that doesn't crash your PC and run it for a few mins and see how high the temps got on the graph when you exit the game

Those temperatures are absolutely fine, no problems there at all. Has it always frozen when playing these games or is it a new development?

The next logical step would be to make sure you have the newest drivers for your APU from the AMD website here http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

If not, install the newest ones. I'd suggest that you completely remove the old drivers using a tool like this one http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html then reboot and install the latest ones from AMD

Ok i just played a game with Speedfan on but i don't know how that program works, temperatures are constantly changing, I'm not sure is there a way to record them or something to get a saved report? AUX one went up to 119, CPU is 51, System 48...

It says my drivers are up to date.

They do keep changing that's normal, AUX is normally always a weird high reading. If it didn't overheat running Furmark it won't do it under any other situation as Furmark really stresses your PC.

Is this a new problem or have these games never worked? Which games is it?

The problem isn't new actually, it started happening three months ago or so. The games worked before, latest games even, and now i can't even play older games. Today, Tomb Raider from 2013. froze several times, but i played it last year with no problems. It happened with old Need for Speed, even Titan Quest, Neverwinter online...

I know it's a hassle but if it were me I'd back up my PC and just reinstall Windows. There's still the possibility of your PSU being at fault but reinstalling Windows first is free (though of course rather time consuming).

If the problem remains after a re-installation of Windows I'd take a long hard look at your power supply and replace it with something like this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-100b10500kr or this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx430

Both are pretty similar in terms of parts and reliability and are more than adequate for your needs. You'd even be able to add a separate graphics card like an R7 260X or a GTX 750 Ti in the future

*EDIT You could always try and run a "system restore" to a time when those games ran OK, I highly doubt it will work but you may as well give it a shot. Just be aware you'll lose any programs/games you installed after that time but it is reversible. I'd still back up the PC first though!

Alright, i suppose there's nothing else i can do but reinstall Windows or replace my power supply no? Thank you a lot for your help. I was avoiding to reinstall Windows because i have so many things on PC right now but I see must try this.

Weird that it's only certain games though and that it didn't crash out during Furmark when the PSU was being totally hammered. That would suggest the PSU isn't the problem in this case despite being a big pile of poo.

I agree that the PSU should probably go but never underestimate the horribleness of some driver/Windows update issues.
