Budget PC, What CPU??

I only use my computer to search the web and play WoW. I dont plan on overclocking any of these. Just want a CPU that will last me for next 5+ years. I have a GTX 550 video card, and have less than $200 spend on a CPU/Motherboard. After some research I have narrowed it down to these two CPU, not sure which to choose though.

Xenon, X3440, 2.53 GHz, 4 cores -$100

Pentium, G3258, 3.20GHz, 2 cores -$80


(I was going to order a intel i7 930 CPU for $100, but all the motherboards for them are $130+)


Which CPU should I get??

I spent about 3 hours researching all the $70-$100 intel and AMD CPU's with a 3,500-5,500 cpu benchmark score, and comparing them to all the reviews from amazon/tigerdirect/newegg.

There was about 7-8 AMD CPU's in that price range, intel had only 3-4. but intel had a lot more reviews in the 4-5 star range with some of them not having a review under 3 stars at all. Where as AMD had quite a few in the 1-2 star range. I rather go with a Intel CPU if it has a better chance at lasting for the next 5 years.



I don't plan to overclock any of these, and only use my comp for searching the web, playing poker and RPG's. Do I really need a Xeon quad core processor? Or will the Pentium dual core do a good job searching the web and playing games like WoW? I only got $200 for CPU/Motherboard, how should i spend my money? 50/50?

What should I look for when I buy a Motherboard?? I dont have any songs/music on my computer so I dont need a lot on memory, only 1 CPU and 1 Video Card. I Just want a motherboard that will help reduce any lag I may have while playing WoW, any make searching the web quick as possible.

That AMD FD6300 does have almost 2X the cpu benchmark score compared to the ones I was looking at. The FD6300 only has 8 bad reviews out of 300. If I can get more bang for my buck Ill buy a AMD, if guys believe there quality is equal to intel. I'm using my GTX 550TI video card, So I really need a 6 core CPU? let alone a 4 core one?

I will never overclock any of these CPU's, I don't do any video rendering or play games like BT4 or COD. I just want a very good CPU/Motherboard combo that will last me for 5+ years playing WoW without lag, and let me search the internet without waiting. I'm just not sure whats the best way to go.

Whats the best way to accomplish that with a $200 budget???

I have to buy a: Hard Drive, CPU, Motherboard, and Windows 7 (heard that's the best)

Id like to keep it under $350. I will have to pay someone to install it into the case I have now.

I want to make my old comp new again, I'm just upgrading what I have to, since my power supply and GTX 550TI video card are only 6 months old.

Never Really looked at the i3's before.. But great deal for $180 with the motherboard, plus every review is 5 stars on amazong/newegg.

Someone posted you need a GPU to go with it, I dont think my GTX 550TI has one.

Looks amazing though thank you!
