Failing Power Supply?

I've just built a new rig about 2 months ago and recently its been shutting itself off, usually when I'm playing a game. At first I thought it was a nasty bit of malware so I just wiped my HDD and re-installed my operating system and it seemed to work, but then this problem occurred again, after downloading something not so trustworthy so I repeated the whole process of wiping my drive and installing the OS again only this time it didn't solve the problem. Now my computer will shut itself down whenever I try to download the first set of windows updates. I'm fairly certain my PSU is to blame, but I have no way to know for sure and would like a second opinion. Is my PSU failing? Here is the link to the parts list for my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WMGw7P Thank you in advance for your time.

Solution

I agree - if it was the PSU I don't think it would be cutting out so regularly, especially during specific activities. If it was just shutting down when attempting a download, I would suspect a faulty LAN adapter, but with it shutting down at OS sign on like that... I could be way off but I think it almost has to be the HDD or mobo.
Is it shutting down or is it crashing? If it's shutting down, it's most likely a software issue. If it's crashing (i.e. no transition screens), then there are a lot more possibilities.

Have you run any tests like MemTest86, or AIDA64 Compatibility Test?

Bluntly, if PC is just shutting down without shutdown process it sounds like the psu is going to pop in anytime or then there is a problem with GPU not getting enough power or dust/cooling problem...

Its shutting down, but it if there IS an update that it needs to install/configure in the shut down screen it appears as if the process is skipped and my PC shuts down. Also I haven't ran any of those tests. As for the CPU, I've very recently installed the after market CPU cooler listed in my part list so I highly doubt its my CPU overheating.

This thing is, if I leave it off overnight I can usually get it to run for an hour or so. Are there any cues, visual or auditory, that can tell me for sure its a heat issue?

After running for 8 minutes:
CPU temp:33 degrees Celsius
Mobo temp: 26 degrees Celsius
CPU voltage: 1.332V
5V: 5.035V
3.3V: 3.312V
12V: 12.097

Yeah, I tried running the windows updater again, then after about 6-7 minutes of that it shut down.

I was looking up the cpu voltage for that and that looks good go to Seagate and see if you can get there seatool for your drive and run it to see if the drive trying to write or read the downloads is failing you never know if the drive goed to spin up to do its work it may just be failing in some way ... its a long shot buy than its eliminated form the check list of things

The problem with that is that I can't stay on long enough to finish the download. Also, I feel its important to note that when I'm installing the OS again its never interrupted by this problem which I find strange.

Try booting to BIOS, then just let it sit with the temp monitor on-screen and watch to see what it shows. If it shuts itself off, disconnect your HDD and ODD and try it again. If it still shuts off, then you've narrowed it down to mobo, PSU and GPU and we can go from there.

If it doesn't shut itself off immediately with the peripherals connected, let it sit for an hour or two just to make sure. If it's still running after that, then it's likely that it's a setting, driver or software issue.

When you re-installed the OS, did you clear your CMOS prior? Have you flashed your mobo BIOS at any point?

I've never flashed my mobo BIOS and I have no idea what my CMOS is and probably haven't cleared it......

When I was gaming it was online. If I let my PC sit overnight staying off, I can browse the web for a good hour or two before it shuts off

He can sit in the BIOS all he wants.....he still isn't loaded/stressed enough just in the BIOS for anything like that to occur....if indeed psu related but I doubt it...the 600B is fairly decent unit. and he isn't taxing his no where near how I am mine....
