Best solution to improve online gaming?

Hi all,

I recently moved to a different place. At my old place, I had no problem playing Titanfall on PC over my wireless connection. Now that I have moved, I have the same service, but Titanfall is too laggy to be enjoyable. The problem, I believe, is that the modem/router (it's a two-in-one; it's one device that serves as both the modem and router) is downstairs where the connection is, and my computer is upstairs in my office. The office is not directly above the router either, so there is a fair bit of distance.

My internet speeds are satisfactory (ping of 36ms, dl speed of 15 Mbps, according to speedtest.com), I can game online with my Wii U with no lag whatsoever (my Wii U is about 5 feet away from the router), and in general just have no problems with internet connectivity. I'm convinced that my issue is purely one of distance.

My question is pretty simple: What would be the best solution to improve my gaming speeds? I've read that using the 5.0 GHz spectrum can be effective - my modem/router can broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but my computer does have a wireless card that supports 5 GHz. Would it be worthwhile to upgrade to one? Or perhaps it would just be better for me to get a really long Ethernet cord? I've heard of other solutions as well, such as repeaters and such. I'd like to be as informed as possible before I make a decision on what to do.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Joe

Solution
Best solution - long Cat5e. 100 meters max.
Secondary solution - Powerline networking devices
Tertiary option - some WiFi repeater thing, midway between your PC and the WiFi source.
