So I'm planning on getting a new power supply and I was wondering if these cables work with any power supply or would I be wasting my time.

No, they only work with the Corsair, and only certain models of the corsair. A few PSU makers sell sleeved cables for their PSU's but they are all proprietary. Personally i'd just sleeve them myself. MDPC have the best sleeving, but it is expensive and a bit more difficult to work with than other types, but it looks fantastic. You can also use Flexi PET, it's very cheap but the weave ususally isn't as thick, still looks better than standard cables. Third option is Paracord 550, you need to remove the 'core' threads and then you can slip your cables though there. In my opinion it looks better than PET, but if you go for paracord make sure to put tape around the pins so they don't get stuck. With paracord you can also melt the cord to the cable so you don't need heat shrink for a really professional look, but if you do you heat shink, you will need to use a bit more than with MDPC or PET as it doesn't hold the paracord as well as the other sleeving. Here is a guide on sleeving.

Edit: the BitFenix are extensions. You still need to plug the cables that come with the PSU in as normal, but then you hook them up to the extensions. I used them before sleeving my own cables, they look good but you still have rubbish looking cables on the PSU and behind the motherboard gets awfully cluttered because you have way too much cable back there.

Why is it only for those Corsair PSU. I thought all modular PSU's used the same cables.

No they all have different shaped ports on the PSU end of the cables. I'm not sure why, possibly so people cannot buy inferior cables then blame the PSU, or just so you have to buy their products if something happens.
