Hey guys. I have an Alienware X51 gaming desktop, I have about 10 games on it and I try to keep it clean as much as I can. I used to have the 6 MBPS internet, and only got like 4 or 5. I upgraded to 18 and am only getting 4 or 5. Sometimes I get 10, never past 10 though. I don't understand this at all. I have tried clearing all cache and browsing history, and nothing. I have a 2Wire router and it is behind my tv by my fireplace. I am about 10 feet away from it.

I was doing research online, will hooking my Ethernet cable to the router directly increase internet speed? How can I increase my internet speed? Really upset here, feel like I got ripped off. The worse part is when I connect on my brother's X51, he gets about a 20 download speed. I don't know why this happens, he has alot more games than me. Is it the programs I have? I have wireshark and HotSpot shield and stuff. Is it my router that's bad? Thanks.

hold on first thing is your brother on the same network as you (connected to your router) or totally different location place. If hes not on the same network then ingor his setup.

Now is your PC wired to your router or are you connecting over wifi ?

The best way to test a connection is to hook your PC directly to the cable modem and go to a speed test website. Also may want to try the test using different browsers other than IE.

Yes, he is right next to me. Idk about the second one. It isn't physically wired, I don't think. There is no blue ethernet cable, I don't know how to check if it is wired. And I use Google Chrome. Asking someone if they use IE is considered an insult now hahaha

Plug your notebook into the Ethernet port of the router, and see what the speeds are. The number of games on your hard drive should not change your network speed.

Wireless is always a bit slower than wired. Also try restarting your modem, you need to do that before it takes effect.
