Hey there,

I have been having problems with my new rig (new SSD, video card, power supply) a few weeks after I got it and I haven't been able to fix it for 7-8 months now.

Basically I upgraded a few components, but it doesn't perform as good as it should.

My story & experiences and details are below the specs.

=============================================================================

Here are my computer details :

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (with stock cooler)
Manufacturer Intel
Speed 3.4 GHz
Number of Cores 8
Family 06
Model 2A
Stepping 7
Revision 25

Video Card AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series ( Sapphire OC version, but I dont overclock it) (stock cooler aswell)
Manufacturer ATI
Chipset AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
Dedicated Memory 3.1 GB
Total Memory 4.0 GB

I have a 120 MB/sec download and ~10 MB/sec upload , so that shouldn't be the problem either ,but who knows? Maybe there could be problems with my Firewall? or with my anti-virus?

My computer got a 7.6 rating in the Windows Experience Index, so I guess it should be pretty good.

My "little" story:

So, for the first few weeks everything was perfectly fine. But as time passed it got worse and worse. My FPS started to get lower and lower with each month. I have of course realized it so I tried to fix it by upgrading drivers (or even installing older ones, and I also used Display Driver Uninstaller every time), I used CCleaner, Malwarebytes too. Nothing worked so far.

In the first few weeks I was trying out World of Warcraft and I was able to reach a really stable 60 FPS with almost max. settings, even while recording nwith Fraps which is insanely good!. But as I said somehow my FPS got worse and worse. There were times when particular elements in the game like a lightbeam etc. appeared 2-3 seconds after I it should have. The game was lagging every few seconds. But I managed to fix that problem. Now my only problem was FPS. I tried to apply lower settings, even higher settings (so my GPU can do most of the work and it doesnt get bottlenecked by my CPU) but nothing seemed to work. It wasn't even comparable like it used to be in the first weeks.

I also wanted to get higher FPS in ArmA 2 , that was the main reason I upgraded my computer. Surprisingly in this game with my new rig It was even worse than with my years and years old video card. I tried tweaking it with custom parameters etc. , but it didn't help that much. One thing I noticed was that when I lowered my video settings it got even worse haha. Location didn't matter. I had terrible FPS even when I was just looking at a wall or looking down at the floor or up in the air.
I gave up, but after some time DayZ Standalone got released. I thought it might be better optimized, better engine. I got my hopes up. FPS was way better than in ArmA 2, but somehow with time it got worse just like before. (am I cursed?)

Right now my main game is ArmA 3.
I seem to have a kinda stable, but at the same time unstable FPS at the same time.
I would like to pressure that the location doesn't matter. I stand in the same place and look in the same direction and I still get the FPS drops, so it's not because of moving or different scenery. ( I ofcourse get worse FPS in cities and such, than in a forest, but that's totally alright. The FPS drops keep happening in every location.

When I JUST join in I get 48-51 FPS. I have it for a few minutes and then BAM it drops down to 33-36. And that's when I join in. As hours pass my FPS drops lower and lower.
In the end I get a "stable" 34-39 FPS, but when it drops (usually a few minutes or less) it drops down to 14-26 FPS. Then it stays there and goes back to normal after a few minutes again.
And this keeps happening all the time.

-----------------------------------------

My temperatures (this might cause the problems) /degrees/ :

CPU is around 50-60 Celsius, but the max. is 73.

  • I can give you further details about my GPU temperature, GPU and CPU usage while in game etc. Just ask =D

    Oh, and I use a VGA(?) display cable for my monitor with an adapter, because I have an old monitor and I couldn't connect my video card to it in any other way. This might be the problem aswell since I just grabbed a random one I found in a box laying around.

    So overall the problem maybe lies in bottlenecking, throttling or overheating, or even some kind of problem related to my internet connection and my anti-virus.

    As I get lower and lower FPS it might be because of over-heating. I have only 2 fans (both of them stock coolers on my GPU and CPU and that's it). I would like to mention that I have a server computer case so it's kinda huge. Most wires in the case are zipped up. Although they are still going next to my video card, cpu. so the wires are not far away form the motherboard. I might try to attach them a littke bit to the case so they don't block the heat sink etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I really hope I will get some helpful advices and tips, because I have been searching for the problem through forums, videos and such just to find the solution that I am not even sure there is a solution for it anymore.
