Intermittent (and momentary) connection drops

Modem: Arris Touchstone Cable Modem CM820 (hate this thing)

Router: Netgear R6250 wireless router

WiFi adapter: NETGEAR WiFi USB 2.0 Adapter - AC Dual Band (A6200)

Is there a particular way I should have the settings to get this setup to work best? I do have the wifi disabled on the arris modem/router thing. I have no idea why but my connection just dies for 10-15 seconds every 15-20 mins. It's rather irritating when playing World of Tanks. I just moved to a new apartment and it was rock solid in the old one so i suspect that some wiring somewhere is at fault out side of my modem/router/wifi adapter.

The strange thing is sometimes the connection will die out for longer periods of time (3-5 mins) but it can be "fixed" by switching from the 5ghz network to the 2.4ghz network and connecting instantly. I really wish i could be a bit more specific because this seems really vague but with the connection phasing out and coming back so quickly i cant really jump up and see what the lights on the modem are doing. by the time ive noticed its off, its already reconnecting. I did a tracert a few times in a row the other day and saved it.
