Connect 2 way crossfirex without teeth

Hi guys. i have a radeon r9 290 and it has no crossfire teeth (No bridge teeth) and my second card does have teeth, r9 280x .
how do i connect these cards if one does not have teeth, crossfire on the 290 works via pci-e cord but do i need identical cards for it to work without a bridge

You can't CrossFire those cards.

The cards don't use the same architecture; You can only CrossFire cards with the same architecture. The 280X can be used with another R9 280X, R9 280, HD 7970, or the HD 7950. The R9 290 can be used with another R9 290, or the R9 290X.

And the R9 290 doesn't come with CrossFire fingers.

if i can only have one then which should i get? and will cards with the 290 architecture come out as only 3 cards use it and heaps use the 280x archetecture

I'g get the R9 290, it's always best to use two identical cards. I don't think they will release any cards with that architecture in the foreseeable future.
