Is my PSU underpowered and what is the result if it is?

Hello!

So I have almost all of my PC parts now including my PSU. I was talking to someone who I am sure is quite high above average in the IT field and he said that he would help me build my PC but that the PSU is underpowered.

The build I have is as follows

Intel Core i5-4690K
ASUS Z97-K
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X
2x4GB Hynix RAM @ 1600MHz
And the star of the show
EVGA 500B 500W 80+ BRONZE

Okay so he said that it will not be enough to power my build but after lookng on the partpickper site it said that the estimated wattage is is just above 360 and I have 500w so that is enough head room right?

Also will it fry any of my parts if it is not powerful enough? And will it be fine if I do some light overclocking?

And once it's "lifetime" is over would a PSU of this quality send out a heavy wave of electricity like people say? Because I wouldn't mind replacin it if I can't do any overclocking maybe 6 months down the line
