Approximate Purchase Date: optimally within the month

Budget Range: $300-$500 all inclusive

System Usage from Most to Least Important: photo post processing (e.g. Photoshop, Lightroom, Windows Photo Gallery,), watching video (VLC), web, light gaming

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, RAM, MB, case, maybe also a new HD

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: n/a

Location: Detroit, MI, USA

Parts Preferences: I went with AMD because of concerns (some months ago) regarding forward compatibility of Intel CPUs/MBs

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution:1920x1080

Additional Comments: I'm retaining my PSU (OCZ700MXSP - 700W) and am not concerned about a video card upgrade for either 2D image manipulation or the extremely light gaming I'm doing so will retain my GPU (GTS450). Additionally, I have two SATA hard drives for plenty of storage (1.7TB or thereabouts), but I am open to adding in an SSD for my OS and Program Files directory. Additionally I have all the peripherals I need (mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc).

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I've had my case for a dozen years, and have rerouted the power button twice due to case breakage, none of my case fans work. I'm running on an Athlon 64 X2 3600+ OCed to maybe 5200 (it's been ages / a friend did it / I have no real idea). I need to upgrade that processor, and with that comes a mobo, and with that an upgrade from 4GB DDR2 RAM to some DDR3 RAM. Photoshop and Lightroom have been slugging along as I'm manipulating single images, but I've noticed real pains with Windows Photo Gallery as I try to quickly jump between photos (.CR2 raw files). I'm finally taking up the task of organizing everything since I got my DSLR in '07 and need a system that can more smoothly load and edit my files.

Here's what I came up with. I'd really appreciate whatever input you might have. Thanks!

As stated in my add'l comments, I'll be retaining both from my old build. They're the newer pieces, and I'm quite content with them for my purposes.
