I've already ordered my i5 4690k + new mobo and I'm currently using an AMD A8-5500 and a very outdated mobo. I've researched and asked around about the process and it's becoming more and more alarming to me. This is my first time ever changing CPU/motherboard so I'm obviously out of league here.

Will I need to purchase a fresh Windows 7 (what I'm currently using) and install as soon as my computer starts up? Like I'm completely confused on what I'll need to do when I first start up my computer after the install...

Solution
Here's what to do:
Download the exact version of Windows (like home premium, 8.1, etc) that you currently use on AMD build as iso.
Burn it to a disk.
Download Magical Jelly Bean and follow the installation process to install it on your AMD computer.
Launch the program.
The program will scan your installations and find the product keys of supported programs, including various versions of Windows and Microsoft Office.
Note that key.
In your new build, insert the disk and run the wizard.
When it asks for key, provide it with that.
You're good to go :)
When you start your pc you will be in the bios where it will ask you where it should look fot the os, so you will select dvd drive or whatever etc. Then after install is complete, you just register a user on win 7 and you're good to go, don't forget to download latest drivers

Problem is, it was originally a prebuilt and I do not have the cd.. Is that okay? Will I be prompted to insert the cd or will I just need to enter my key and I'm golden? I do have an .iso form of the same windows on my USB if that is all I need I should be good.

Honestly, if I can just reach my the windows desktop I'll be fine the updating drivers part is simple at that point.
