I was using my computer fine about 3 weeks ago, I shut the computer down and then when away for 3 weeks. I've just returned home to find out it won't turn on. The motherboard light does not even illuminate. The computer had not been touched for 3 weeks and was on a surge protector, I'm automatically assuming its the power supply.( Corsair HX850 ) But wanted to wait and see what others thought? I'm also curious if it is the power supply, how could it die while not being used?

If the psu works on another computer it is most likely your motherboard. I had a similar problem where my motherboard was messing up. I turned the psu on, and had a cpu in the slot of the motherboard. I pressed the power button to install some bios but it just turned on for 1 second and then turned off. Like you I immediatley thought it was my psu but we tested it on a friends pc and it was fine. We discovered that the motherboard was faulty and was not had some disruption in the way it powered things (don't ask :S it's techy and idk). I now have to buy a new motherboard however I have decided to get a different make. What are your specs if I may ask?

It could be your motherboard and I know. It happens though, take everything off the motherboard and take it to a computing store near you to get it tested. Then if it works idk...If it doesn't you know what to get
