Windows 7 random lock-ups

Hello! I'm running an AMD 64 X2 6000+ on an MCP6P M2+ Mobo with 1 1/2 gigs of ram, and an GeForce 8500 1gig video card. I've got an 800 watt power supply too.

They system has been running fine, but my HD started giving me errors so I replaced it with a brand new 1 terabyte Seagate SATA model.

I loaded Windows 7 Home Ultimate and updated it just fine. However, now it randomly locks up and cntrl-alt-delete won't break it. I have to shut the pc off, and it runs chkdsk and finds errors and such fixes them. When it restarts it will hang on the windows logo screen forever.

I decided to do a total hd wipe and re-install Windows again. It loads from the disc, starts the process... gets to the Windows logo and hangs on it forever. So I can't even get a fresh copy of Windows on it.

Any idea what could be going on? I'm in the middle of researching, but so far no one seems to have my specific problem. Thanks for any advice you can give. :)

No I haven't.... we'll give that a go and see what happens. This is the first time I've dealt with a problem like this. Thanks! :)

I forgot to mention this in my original post - I ram memtest for like 7-8 passes and it came back with no errors. I also did a hd diagnostic and it came back ok. I switched the port and cable... it runs sluggish as before. It will take forever to do a task. Before, it has locked up during said task but it hasn't done that... *yet*. :p

With the memory and HD checking out ok... could this be a power supply problem? I have Kentek 850 that was bought over Xmas and until these problems it's not given me any cause to look at it. I've also had the mobo since 2008... could that be playing out? I'm at a loss for what could be causing these problems...

Also if your able to boot into windows run a chkdsk on the C drive to try to find software errors. There *could* be an issue with the PS if you have an older one you should use to rule it out that would be good.

UPDATE - I replaced the mobo, memory, and processor (a slight upgrade to the cpu and ram). So, the only things that weren't replaced were the GeForce 8500GT vid card, the above power supply, and the CD/DVD drive. I also bought the mobo, memory, and processor all together, already assembled so I know they would be done right and compatible.

However, when I try to load Windows and I press the "Install Now" button, it gets hung and sits there. As there is a version of Windows already on the HD, I try to load into it and it gets hung at the Windows logo screen and just sits there. What else is left to try? :na: I'm thinking the PS is the culprit... that's the last thing that it could be that wasn't replaced right?
