I have 16 GB of ram but my computer is only showing i have 8

i just built this computer a few weeks ago. runs amazingly fast. but i got 2x8GB corsair vengeance ram sticks installed. but in windows control panel it only shows i have 8GB installed.
CPU-Z is showing that i only have 8 GB installed. i made sure the RAM was securely in place too. at this point should i contact corsair support?

What does the BIOS say? Have you tried 1 chip at a time, in the same slot, to make sure both chips detect? Lots of things to try before trying support.

If running Win7 Home Basic 64 you are limited to 8 GB, if not that, might want to try reseating the sticks and make sure they are in the proper slots - and let us know

try both sticks in both slots 1 at a time to be sure both slots detect both sticks but also some motherboards don't take over 8 and some cpus don't support over 8 usable gb that's why I asked for mobo and cpu type

Try them in slots 1-2 and see if all 16 show - if so may be a slot ot MC (memory controller) problem - if that's it, try loosening the CPU cooler then snug it down - not overly tight, the CPU may be out of balance which can effect the MC

i swear to bob i think you are running a 32 bit windows or have a mobo/cpu that limits the use of ram to 8gb. get me the cpu and mobo model number plz and a screen shot of dxdiag showing windows type

Windows has nothing to do with what shows in the BIOS. They could have a 2bit version of windows installed, doesn't change what the BIOS says. The motherboard is listed in the OP, Asus Z97-K, Asus site says max 32MB RAM. I doubt there is a 1150 socket chip that only works with 8GB of RAM, but maybe.

And even if it was a 32bit version of Windows, their RAM would be limited to 4GB not 8GB.

I never said any 64bit version was limited, I said 32bit was limited to 4GB, and your the one who said 32bit anyways, so don't change things. And it still doesn't change the fact that the version of windows has nothing to do with what the BIOS shows.
