My desktop computer keeps blue screening on start up. How can I tell which component is faulty if it can't even stay on long enough to run any tests. Its about 5 years old with Windows Vista, graphics card and power supply have both been updated but everything else is the same. I dusted it out with no success.

Thanks

F or C on the temp? If it's F then yea it can happen and it's not too much of a worry. If it's C then you have a big issue. BSOD's can be hard to figure out what the causes are. So you blew out the vents with a can of compressed air? Was there a lot of dust coming out or no?

C on the temp. its double the temperature of all the other components in the laptop according to CPUID HW Monitor.

Yes to blowing out the vents, not a ton of dust as I've blown it out several times in the past. Don't hear anything wrong on start up. Just blue screens before I can log in or shortly thereafter

i reccomend getting a whole new cooling sulution, and my go to is the cooler master 212 EVO, cause its only 30 dollars and provides very great cooling. But you might need a sort of water cooler.

This is for desktop correct? the heating problem is with the laptop, not sure what's wrong with the desktop. Can't see it being heat as it doesnt really have enough time to get hot before it crashes.

Sorry I combined two threads into one. The heating problem is with the laptop, the blue screens with unknown causes is the desktop.

Ok then forget the CPU cooler and listen to what I said earlier. Ok if the temp on the laptop is 100c then you have a huge problem. Either there's blockage in the vent leading out or something has gone wrong inside. With the exception of using a can of compressed air and blowing it out really good the only other option is to take it to a shop and they'll have to open it up to see what's going on. If it's still under warranty then call the guys who made it, if not find a local computer repair shop and talk to them. Don't use places like Geek Squad for this.
