My friend has a generic PC on Windows XP no external utilities installed. On boot up my friend gets
V class screen with instructions to Press tab to switch to post or del. to run bios setup, buttons to start, none of this works.
She has a CD player installed and the eject button is jammed inside it (she doesn't think it has a CD in it). She needs to be able to eject from the Computer objects program to eject. It was working fine before though even with the jammed button My friend is not PC savvy and is a pensioner and hasn't a lot of spare cash so I am trying to help her out over the phone without her having to take it to a repair shop as she was quoted $70 viewing fee. Can someone help us to get her up and viewing the net again. Please.

I think that the BIOS finds a CD driver failure and don't allow her to boot into windows. Tell her to go into BIOS and search for something like No boot when failure exists and change it to boot even if there is a failure.

How does she get into the BIOS from this screen ? She cannot get past the VClass screen. She turned it on this morning and got a black screen with the Energy Sign and Info on the left side. If she presses Del as requested it does not start in set-up as suggested, when she shut it down again it opened with the V class screen again.

Try removing the CD driver and booting without this. If that doesn't work, I would need more info about her computer as computer's age also.

Thankyou I have asked her to go into the back of the PC and remove the CD player. Will ring and explain how to there in no hole in the front of it so I guess she will have to remove it that way.
