Does the i7-4790K's stock cooler come with a pre-applied thermal paste? Some people say that i should buy an extra thermal paste and apply it and others say that i should not. Also, is the stock cooler good for gaming or should i buy a different cooler? Thanks in advance!

Solution

I don't think that using the stock cooler will keep the CPU cool enough. If not overclocking, I suggest getting a better Air cooler, I suggest Noctua NH-D14. If OCing, I suggest a good air cooler, or a All in one water cooling system. The Corsair H100i is a great example. And all these come with extra thermal paste.

Stock cooler on k series CPUs won't be able to help your CPU with good temps. When you will overclock it, you would need better cpu cooler than the stock cooler.

Depending upon your budget, number of RAMs, case, motherboard, you can opt for air cooler or water cooling kits. Some recommendations are: -

Noctua NH-D14/15, NH-U14S/12S
CM V8 GTS/Hyper Evo 212
Corsair H100i/H110
Swiftech H320/220

Let me know your number of RAMs along with their model/serial number, motherboard model, and Case make/model along with preferred cooler so that the compatibility can be checked.

Most of these coolers come with thermal paste, so you don't need to buy any.

Here is my build:

GIGABYTE Z97X-UD3H
INTEL CORE i7-4790K
2 x COOLER MASTER Fan 120mm Blue LED
CORSAIR H100i
CORSAIR 2X8GB Vengeance DDR3 1866MHz CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9
WD 1024GB 64MB SATA III Black
SAMSUNG 120GB 2.5" 840 Evo
GIGABYTE GTX780Ti (N78TOC-3GD)
COOLER MASTER ELITE 431 BLACK SIDE WINDOW
CORSAIR 850W RM

I am new to overclocking. Do you think i can reach 4.8 GHz with the H100i? And with what voltage should it be.
