ok guys I am looking to upgrade my graphics since I can get a discount from my work already buying everything else... microcenter has a deal to get 10% off the r9 and was looking at the asus card... I also saw the gtx770 for a little more there and also some deals on newegg... I currently play in 1920x1080... is the gtx 770 worth the extra money? reviews on them both seemed to be mixed... I am coming from a 6950..

rest of the build will be

i5 4690k
8gb
unknown mobo currently
samsung evo ssd

Solution
I say go with the 280x, it's cheaper, goes toe to toe with the 770, and comes with 3GB of RAM which is useful for some games or if you ever decide to go with a higher resolution monitor.

It all depends what types of games you play, and what you look for in a GPU

The r9 280x had an extra GB of vRAM, great for games like Watch_Dogs, but pretty much unused elsewhere. The 280x also has Mantle available to it, so in games like BF4 you will get a performance gain.

The 770 on the other hand has PhysX and great software features (Shadowplay, Geforce Experience). It also supports game stream with the nVidia Shield (aka Shield Portable) and Shield Tablet

My advice: Get whichever is cheapest if these features don't mean anything to you. Both are great cards, personally I went for a 280x and have never looked back :)

thanks I was leaning towards it because it seems like it performs slightly better... currently I am not playing much but do have bf4(when it works) and witcher2 and just other random games. I will be playing gta5 and witcher 3 when they come out a long with a few others

ok guys so I bought the asus r9 280x and had a question for yall... the fans run around 20% and I fired up bf4 and played a while and only saw them go to 28% or so and the card was in the high 60c range... I do have asus ai suit and turned the fan up to around 50%.... is there a reason they spin so slow on stock drivers?

High 60s are fine temperatures, I'm sure the fans are not going above 28% because they do not need to. You can force them higher it's just going to create more noise.

As long as your performance is good I wouldn't worry about it.

ok thanks, I plan to run a couple of benchmarks tonight and test to see the temps when the card is at 100%... I just thought it was weird that the card gets that hot before the fans even start to spin... my old 6950 would ram up the fans when my mouse was just over the bf4 button haha

Guys is it safe to buy a used graphics card from Amazon, where Amazon is the seller & it says about condition:

(Small (less than ¼" x ¼") cosmetic imperfection on front of item. Small (less than ¼" x ¼") cosmetic imperfection on top of item. Small (less than ¼" x ¼") cosmetic imperfection on the sides of item. Small (less than ¼" x ¼") cosmetic imperfection on back of item. Accessories have cosmetic damage).

or where it says:

MSI RECERTIFIED 90 days warranty direct full accessories.

please reply ASAP!

I would advise against it simply because you're only getting a 90 day warranty, and have no clue what the card was used for previously. With r9 series cards, it's likely they were used for mining which can seriously decrease the life of a card

yeah i just trust Amazon warehouse for used stuff other than that i don't trust any other seller on Amazon.
BTW this is gpu i am looking to buy from Amazon in used condition. it's probably in my budget line.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ETC34NA/ref=s...

i think Cosmetic imperfection is no big deal as long as the gpu was not used in Bitcoin mining. Please correct me if i am wrong.
