Solution
Make sure your CPU is compatible, back up your data, make sure Win is all the way up to date, plug the drive in and see if it boots, (Win7 is pretty good w/ this), If it boots OK, then update the mobo drivers for the new mobo, preferably with those from the mobo website (the diskk that comes with the mobo is more often than not already out of date)...Next run a registry cleaner (Wise has a good free version), then it will prob ask to re-activate, go through the internet, if it doesn't automatically it will provide a number to call, call that, a computer will ask for your error code, ask how many systems the copy is installed on (1) and give you a new code 95 times out of 100
Hello...
1) Determine what type of Connections you need and number... ( LAN, Firewire, USB, USB3, SATA 3, 7.1/5.1 AUDIO rear connections, Video Cards, etc...)
2) Determine the Type of CPU you will be using and what MB CHIPSETs are available for this CPU.
3) Determine the type of Memory and Number of sticks you will be using.

1. Back up your C drive.
2. Download the drivers for the new board and put them on a flash drive (not necessary, but makes the process easier).
3. Install the new board.
4. Perform a clean installation of Windows.
5. Install all the required drivers.
EDIT: 6. If your system tells that your product key is invalid, call Microsoft's customer support and tell them that you replaced your motherboard.

Lots of things.

1. You may have to do a clean install of windows if you can't boot using the new motherboard.
If the chipsets are too different, the drivers will not be there. Plan for that possibility.

2. If you CAN boot into windows, install the drivers that come with your new motherboard. Particularly the lan driver so you can access the internet to get the latest drivers.

3. You will need to reactivate windows. If your os is w7 OEM, you will have to beg MS to do this, but are likely to be successful if you convince them that you are not a pirate and no other pc is using this w7 copy.
