ASUS R9 270x still lagging on some games (and misbehaving on others)

I upgraded from a HD6850 to an R9 270x from ASUS, so I could play Saints Row 4 with some dignity (on the 6850 it was lagging even on low).

As soon as I installed the new gpu with the drivers (v. 14.4), I booted SR4 and cranked everything up to maximum. For my surprise, in the central part of the city, with the mothership in the sky with all those lighting and tall buildings, I get some stutters, like she is strugling to render for a sec. It doesn't impede me of playing, but is annoying.

The other issue is in Kotor 1 (old ass game that I like to play): with the 6850 everything was fine. Now, with the R9, it is glitching like there is no tomorrow. Example: on those intergalactic ship fights when you jump from one world to another, you simply can't see anything, just blur on the screen. The same with some points in game, specially Kasshyyk, where it rendered everything weirdly (invisible enemies, square unfiltered grass...).

What is your opinion? Since it is the last driver update, I am guessing something must be wrong with it.

What motherboard and CPU are you using?

Try an older driver. Some of the issues that you mention on the older game may of gotten broke as they were fixing something with a newer game in a newer driver build. As for saint's row 4, it sounds as if there may be a CPU bottleneck. What are the rest of your specs? List everything you can, including PSU+CPU+MOBO+RAM.

Gigabyte P35-DS3R // E6750 Core 2 Duo@2.66Mhz // 4GB Kingston // 250GB 7200RPM Samsung + 3 more (1T 3.5, 250GB and 120GB 2.5") // 420w CoolerMaster // Asus R9 270x

Sorry, when I posted, I had not completed my profile yet :p

Thought so. You are heavily bottlenecked by your CPU and RAM. You will need a new CPU+MOBO+RAM to run newer games decently. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(

Is it? It's funny, because on Tomb Raider, Witcher 2, Arkhan City and several other games it runs smooth on top settings.

Well, I guess it's savings time then :)
