Okay, so I have this problem when watching movies online such as netflix or megashare where the bottom half on the screen tears on my Vizio TV. My pc is connected to the TV via hdmi and the refresh rate of the tv is 120 hz while the refresh rate of my hp monitor is 60 hz. I don't know if the refresh rate has anything to do with my problem but I thought I might just put that out there. My pc specs are: cpu: intel 4790k gpu: hd 7870 ghz edition mobo: asus z97 extreme 4. I really don't think that my other components are gonna matter so I won't add them unless someone specifically asks for them. Thank you in advance

I also saw screen tearing onetime( i dont watch much movies )while watching movie online. I just streched video to fit screw and fixed it. Btw nothing is wrong with hardware. It can also be your low internet speed. If this is happening specifically on your tv and not monitor try using dvi or vga. Hope i helped u

My download speed is 60 megs so I don't think its my internet. Also if I use dvi no sound will go through and thats a problem and vga isn't 1080p so that won't work. Any other solutions

Depending on the video, they are encoded to run at certain fps, most often 30. So what your seeing is your GPU and tv running 120+ and the video at 1/4th of that. If your player offers it lock the fps to 30. Sorry scratch that if its netflix your locked in at 30 and your tv wont sync with it.

But I thought Screen tearing only occurred when the output of the frames were higher than the refresh rate of the monitor. It doesn't make any sense to me that a 120 hz Vizio tv would screen tear if the video is playing at 30 fps. It should be able to handle it right?

It's actually more along the lines of fragmentation than screen tearing in this situation. Unlike DVD and Blue-Ray players that are designed to work with TV's video control scheme, Desktop GPU's are designed to output as much as possible and it does not send that information to the TV or monitor. While I'm not familiar with that GPU, many offer controls in their config ui's (catylist for that GPU) to set a maximum framerate, try setting it to 30 and 120 and see if that solves the problem.

Does anyone have a solution they could come up with? I notice the screen tearing during pc gaming as well such as Call of Duty Ghosts and it just sort of ruins the game. I've tried setting everything to 60 hz on my amd control panel and nothing seems to work. I know its not my tv because I play my xbox one on it all the time with absolutely no screen tearing. Could it be the hdmi cable? I've changed it with two other cables and still nothing has changed. Should I just buy a new tv at this point? Please help

Test the TV with your onboard video output, rather than the GPU. If it's happening with only with the GPU regardless of what your running at the time it could be the GPU's memory. Another way to test this theory is to test in on another display. I would like to note however you may wish to try another cable on the TV.
