My newly built PC is not showing any video signal when my MSI R9 270x is in my motherboard's PCIe slot.

My components are:
Intel i5 4460
MSI Z97 PC Mate
MSI R9 270x
Corsair CX500

I was re-installing some drivers for my PC as I had to re-install Windows due to a separate problem, then left my PC on for about 20 minutes when I left the room. When I got back, my monitor showed no image. When I tried removing the graphics card and just using the onboard video, I was able to get a normal image on my monitor. However, as soon as I put the video card back in there was no image on the monitor, even when I plugged in my VGA cable directly into the mobo.

Is my video card dead? I bought it open box, but it was working for about a week with no problems until it suddenly did this.

Try a different PCIe slot. Do you have another card you could try?

I just tried my motherboard's other PCIe slot and had the same result. I don't have any other video cards I could try, unfortunately.

Make sure all your other parts are seated properly.

Try if the PC boots with another videocard or onboard videocard. How do you know your system is booting correctly to windows?
