I hope someone can help. I think something might be up with my GPU. The monitor will not light up when plugged into it. However, when I plug it into the on-board GPU it works fine. I've reseated the GPU and nothing seems to work.

This is what I have:
CPU Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core
Motherboard Asus Z87-Deluxe/DUAL ATX LGA1150
Video Card Galaxy GeForce GTX 780 3GB HOF
OS: Windows 8.1

This thing was working no problem up to midnight cst last night. I don't know why it won't function right.

Thanks.

Have you tried every input on the gtx 780? Like both dvi ports and hdmi and DP?

I've tried both DVI inputs and the HDMI via a DVI --> HDMI cable. My monitor does not have DP. None of them work.

Weird, have you tried a different monitor?

I have not yet. Let me do that real quick and I'll see what happens. Would that really matter though? I mean if the monitor port works with onboard GPU what is the chance a different monitor works when the main one won't?

also quick question, would the nvidia gpu still show up in Device manager even if not plugged into a monitor? Right now only the onboard shows up.

so i dug up my crappy Nvidia GT 520 and it brings the monitor up just fine. I'm thinking it's the HOF that is fubarred. :(  It's less than a year old, so let's hope Galaxy's Customer Service is worth something.

I've tested the two other Nvidia cards (a 570 and an old 79xx) and the machine posts and the monitor works. Windows Posts on the 780 but again no images appear. I've filed a ticket with Galaxy and they are basically making me clean and refresh and do all sorts of stuff, such as use a different machine or PSU, which I don't have access to. Bleh, so frustrating.

So I RMA'd to Galaxy and finally got hte card back. Got a replacement, brand new. The neat thing about this version of the card is that it has a giant metal plate on the back. I assume it's for more cooling. It also makes the card more rigid which is nice. It worked straight away and I've been playing ESO on max settings for a few hours now. According to GPU-Z the temp never reached above 51 degrees C. This is in great contrast to the GTX 570 I borrowed which kept crashing, I assume due to the fact that it would boil over just upon starting the game and reach temperatures of over 78C.

I'm going to ask Galaxy what went wrong with the previous card as well and I'll post back.

I really hope the replacement GTX 780 HOF lasts much longer. If it doesn't, at least I have a 3 year warranty on it.
