Hi.

I'm building a new PC.
Currently all I have is the AMD FX8350 and the motherboard ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.

What RAM do you recommend for this?

Thanks!

if its for gaming then get a corsair vengeance pro 1600 mhz ram....you will not see any noticeable difference between higher mhz ram in games unless you are doing rendering work...

gskill ripjaws 1866/9 or sniper 1866/9 typically go on sale in the mid $70's and are good choices. its fast for rather cheap.

they do have new ram which runs at 2133/9 but has slightly looser timings which would work as well.

corsair typically has 1600/9 offerings in that price range as well.

the performance increase from faster ram in games is relatively small with perhaps 2-5% difference between 1600 and 2133. however, if ram is the same cost it makes sense to buy the faster version.

i would avoid anything with an extra tall heatsink on it unless you are liquid cooling your cpu as tall ram can interfere with heatsinks.

2x8gb is typically fine for gaming... but if you want to do professional tasks like 3d rendering or the like then 16gb might be beneficial.

tall ram will not interfere with heatsink i am using cm hyper 212 evo with vengeance ram no problem at all....plus the fans of the heatsink can be adjustable...

I'm going to use it for gaming (some light mmo's and mobas), working (I'm a programmer) and recording music (I have a home studio, just for hobby). Should i go for 1866mhz? Gskill Ripjaws look promising.

Also... 2x8gb or 4x4gb?

Thanks.

its a much often proven fact that tall heatsink ram can clash with some heatsinks, however it is not guaranteed to be a clash.

typically this occurs with either very large heatsinks such as the noctua nh-d14 which can jut out over all of the ram sockets but can occur with smaller heatsinks such as the hyper 212 as well on certain motherboards if the sockets are too close to the cpu. while i agree that he might be perfectly fine it is still worth noting that it could be an issue worth considering. example: http://www.phong.org/misc/computer/212-plus-ram-clearan...

edit:

i would go 2x8 myself.

1866/9 if you can get it on sale for the mid 70's, otherwise 1600/9 will work for you.

basically... if the faster ram is the same price as the slower ram go for it. if not, just get normal ram. that stuff is on sale every other month though it seems... its been $72-73 pretty constantly.

With your combo, I'd go 1866/9 in a 2x8GB set, either GSkill's Snipers or Ripjaws X lines, both work extremely well on AMD rigs
