My board is a MSI 970A-G46 and i have 4 sticks of 2gb patriot G2 ram, one stick died and is causing blue screens, it's a dual channel board, and i currently have 2 sticks (4GB) installed....would it benefit me to add the 3rd stick for a total of 6GB? do i have to change the settings in bios from dual channel to single on the single slot?

More than likely, 6GB is better than 4, on your board believe it will all run in single channel, not sure if it has AMDs version of Flex mode, if so would have 4GB in dual channel and 2 in single), but with AMD there's not a ton of difference between dual channel and single

so i should just run them all in single I'm not sure how or if i can do that, I'm looking at the manual it just explains dual channel and how to install memory not much help there... I'll check my bios and see if i can get set it to single channel or if has something like a (flex mode) thanks for the quick reply anyone know for sure before i go on this mission?

Just pop the stick in and try, use slots 1-2-3 from CPU - if no joy try in 2-3-4..If still any problem try increasing DRAM voltage + 0.06

I just said f* it and slapped it in (first build so I'm cautious) i have ram in 1-2-4 slots manual says 2-4 first then 1-3 seems to be running fine windows registering it notice slight boost in speed even up'ed my windows index score, thanks tradesman1!
