Hi guys,
Yesterday I built my first pc with a friend, long story short the pc wouldn't boot because I had the i7 4790k and I didnt realize the I got the Z87 formula vI instead of the V II -.-
I know it needs a BIOS update but I want the new one. I'll try to return this motherboard although the guy at the shop told me you can't but i'll see what happens.
Anyway, my questions is if the VII isn't available what other MB can I get that have the same or similar specs as the formula VII?

Thanks

Hello, I have a Maximus VI Formula and I love it. When I first built my PC, I was faced with a different situation but ended up with the same dilemma. What to get if I couldn't get the formula. The answer that I came up with is that if you want the Maximus VII Formula, then stick with that decision and see what it takes to make it happen. You already have proven that the VII Formula is what you want by not accepting the VI Formula. This is a long term investment and one that is worth the extra time it takes in order to have the build you want.

With that being said, if there is no way you can get the Maximus VII Formula, then this one is a pretty good runner up: MSI Z97 XPower AC

Many consider it a clone of the Maximus VII Formula and it has many of the same features. It does, however cost a little more than the Formula. This would be my second choice if I were in your shoes and the extra cost didn't matter. Best of luck!

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I really want the V II but in my country the market isn't that great and products are overpriced. I thought of shipping it from amazon but it's not available at the moment. http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Motherboard-MAXIMUS-VII-FORMULA/dp/B00M5DUVT0/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408096902&sr=8-2-fkmr2&keywords=z97+maximus+formula+vii

So im looking for other OEMs like MSI or Gigabyte with the same specs.
Will the MSI z97 support future CPU's? I mean is it future proof like the formula?

Thanks a lot

Guys what do you think of the GA-Z97X-SOC Force? The specs seem to be great unless im missing something but why is the price low compared to the formula VII

Well the GA-Z97X-SOC Force is a very decent board, however in my opinion, it doesn't stack up to the Maximus VII Formula or the MSI Z97 XPower AC. The MSI board was designed to compete with the Maximus Formula so it is as future proof as the Formula. What are your plans for the motherboard? Do you plan to overclock? Gaming? SLI or Crossfire. The reason I'm asking is because the MSI and Maximus Formula Boards have a lot of features that can be a waste if you do not plan to overclock or do some serious gaming. I use my board to the fullest OC'd to 4.5 Ghz at 1.24 volts. And I heavily game. These are the things that I do in order to justify having the Maximus Formula motherboard and it is GREAT at what it does. I only say this because if you don't overclock or heavily game, then the Formula may be overkill on motherboard and the extra $$$ can be used for other upgrades to the PC. But if you do plan to use the features, then the Maximus VII Formula and the MSI XPower run circles around the SOC Force. Either way, just make sure that you make a choice that you are happy with. Nothing is worse than hating your PC build.

That is a fine motherboard in its own right. You can't go wrong with the XPower AC. Ultimately you shouldn't regret that board. MSI was a strong contender when I was deciding on a motherboard for my build. Another category of boards that you could look at that might interest you are the Asus Sabertooth z97 boards. They are the sturdiest boards out there. They also come with a 5 year warranty instead of the standard 3 year. The feature set is a little different though. It is geared more for stability and keeping parts cool. They still do a good job of facilitating overclocking. You can buy it with or without the TUF armor. Just a thought:

sure m8, I have a quick questions. The Xpower doesn't seem to have the SATA EXPRESS, would this make a noticeable difference?

In my opinion, it would only make a noticeable difference in the transferring of huge amounts of data. If you commonly transfer huge files ( 3 gigabytes and higher) you would definitely benefit from it. There are many pros and cons to SATA EXPRESS. One con is that a motherboard only has so many PCI lanes and using SATA EXPRESS will use more of those available lanes. However, sata express is awesome. Here is a video that goes into detail about sata express.

However, this is your build and the choice is up to you. It never is easy deciding what features you want/need or don't want/need in your build. There is always some sort of small compromises that must be made. SATA EXPRESS would definitely future proof your build, but at the cost of PCI lanes. If you plan to use discrete graphics card (or more that one GPU) and an optical drive AND SSD and HDD etc. this could be a problem as you wouldn't be able to use them all and still take advantage of the SATA EXPRESS. See what I mean by small compromises? Anyway, I hope this helps.
