Not quite sure if I should update my BIOS, or even when I should update my BIOS. I've been having processor issues recently, so I've been trying to make sure all of my software is up to date. I tried looking it up online, and it didn't help much. It basically said that you should be careful about updating your BIOS, but not when you should or when you shouldn't do it. All I got from that search is that if you incorrectly install it or your power fails while you're installing, you're pretty much screwed.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

You should never update the BIOS (or a device driver for that matter) just because you don't have the latest version. The golden rule is if everything is working okay leave it alone.

Only update BIOS or driver for compatibility reasons or to take advantage of new features which you need.

Particularly regarding BIOS updates, always check that a specific update addresses the issues you are experiencing before going ahead with it. On no account blindly update the BIOS "in the hope" that it will fix your problem, as unlike a driver, a BIOS update is often irreversible if the old backup copy gets corrupted or backup didn't work.

You may get more help with your CPU problem if can be more specific about it. Simply saying "I've been having processor issues recently" is not exactly informative.

I'm not really sure what's causing my CPU issues. They seem to come and go, but around a month ago the fps rate for every game I played went down lower than it ever had before, web browsers would take up all of my CPU's memory, and it's overheated after launching Chrome after booting up, twice in a row. I'm sure it's not a virus, since I've scanned it with Avast! and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, both quick and full scans. The answer to this thread decreased some of the issues I've been having, but it's still not back to normal.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation. I'll be sure to check out the notes for each update to see if it has something I need.
