Hello. I am an in high school and assembling 2 workstations for autodesk inventor. I'm looking for 16 gigs of ram and either an i5 4690, or a xeon 1230v3. Micro atx/small midtower at most. It needs to fit in a small area. Hopefully a hyper 212evo, z87 board, coolermaster v650 and decent cooling. Need fast help as I will be buying soon. Parts can only apparently be from frys.
(no gpu's required, already have a quadro k2000 and a firepro 5900 card)

More about : 1000 workstation cad

Alright, I'd do the xeon because it is a i7 without GPU, and will help more in AutoCAD. I'm not much on the workstation GPU's, and thankfully you already have them. I put a 750watt gold since it's total overkill after looking at the power consumption. Atleast, that's the Nvidia site. Xeons don't OC, so H97 is good for this. SSD for OS and a large HDD for the files. The prodigy is small and is perfect for this. I did not put an OS.

If you're going for a workstation build your best option would be to go for the non iGPU'd Xeon's.

The reason I state this is because the compute power from a Xeon is better than the Core i's and thier iGPU's.

I think it's best PCBuilder if you could edit the OP and include these details;

Hopefully more people will see this and respond constructively and will avoid undue questioning.

The build I offered puts in a better motherboard(IMO) and has the Xeon, and is still cheaper. And you don;t need to pay for fans. From what I say, and from the cooler these cards have, very little heat is generated. Just go with the 212 EVO. On most sites it is out of stock, indicating that it is old. I still like the Seasonic PSU's. I'm assuming you chose the v650 because of LinusTechTip's ads in the beginning of their videos?

Haha, yep. I don't think I can buy the xeon, because my teacher just ask the team's parents for part donations, and most the time they just buy directly from fries. I will keep my eyes open for either a 4770 or a 4771, though

Ah, Fry's does not have a Xeon. I don't think craigslist will help right? Safety rules and all that.

Ahh, found a good combo deal for an m-power motherboard. z87 board+i5 4690 and some msi mouse. Not bad!
