Cloning smaller hdd to larger ssd

Hey guys,

I've just bought a Samsung evo 250g ssd and want to clone my windows 8.1 install from a very old 80g hdd to it. I've tried using clonezilla, which was actually quite easy, but the problem is that it made an 80g partition on the new 250g sdd, which isn't really what I wanted. Instead I would like to have one partition on the 250g which has the cloned windows install.

Any advice on how to do this? Preferably without buying software.

You can just go into Window disk manager and add the rest of the space on the SSD to the C: drive.

Thanks for the quick answer JED!

I found that I couldn't extend my partition as there was another recovery partition in the way. ie you can only extend a partition if there is free space right next to it using the windows disk management tool.

I found a thread that helped me get around that though and now have a sweet new sdd running my original windows install.
