hi
i bought a reference AMD r9 270x card for a very good price
but the problem is when i tested it on crysis 3 on ultra settings its temperature reached 92 degree celcius after about 30- 40 minutes
the game was stable but i think this is not a normal temperature
also its temperature at idle was around 40-50 degree

More about : reference amd 270x hot

Reference cards cooler's aren't that great. Return that card and get one with a 3rd party cooler, they run much cooler.

hey i tried changing the fan speed vs temperature curve using MSI afterburner and i was able to reduce max temperature to 86 degree Celsius under full load and maximum fan speed of 80% (it was around 75% most of the time at full load)
i think this is a good result

Now I know I am a bit late to the party, but 86 degrees IS NOT GOOD. Return the card. Some non-reference cards get load temps of around 60-70 degrees. Sapphire and ASUS have good coolers. The temps you are getting now are unsafe. They could shorten your GPU lifespan.
