RAM upgrade question

Today I got me a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series and it came with 4gb of DDR3 RAM. It works fine and is much snappier than my old 32bit 1720 but I would still like to upgrade to 8gb of RAM. Crucial says that it has a max of 8gb and on dell they show a few 15 3000 series being sold with 8gb. I have checked on amazon ebay newegg and a basic google search but all i keep getting back is laptops and not the ram itself. Will any DDR3 RAM work as long as its 8gb? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you need is SO-DIMM RAM.

As to whether you can stick another 4gb module in there or need to buy an 8 gb pack, this is a quote from Tradesman in regards to that question.
"DDR was pretty easy, DDR2 was pretty easy also, then as more different memory chips became available and manufacturers began to put out faster DRAM it got harder, with DDR3 - the original specs put out by JEDEC only called for freqs up through 1600, and look at DRAM today, JEDEC is so far behind, there were tons of 1866 and 2133 sticks long before JEDEC published 'official' specs. Further tolerances are so tight, even DRAM of the same exact models won't always play, you might pull 10 consecutive sticks off an assembly line and maybe, can find four sticks to make a full package of 4 that all play nice, the rest end up going to 1 or 2 stick packages"

i appreciate the reply but im not exactly hardware savvy lol all i really comprehend currently is ddr3 is faster than ddr2 and that multiple sticks is better than singles but my new laptop only has one slot....would my best bet be to just call dell and see how much/if theyll ship me the upgraded RAM? sorry for being so noobish and i do appreciate the response

Thanks for the patience with me lol so basically for $90 all i would have to do is replace my RAM with that and its good quality and would work with no problems? I kind of had the impression that Ram sticks had to have some sort of driver compatibility of some sort with your individual machine. Again, sorry that im so new to this.

Thats alright, people on here explain stuff to me all the time. It should work without problems. Motherboards do list RAM that they are compatible with, but it's mainly to cover their arse if a RAM module doesn't work for whatever reason, even though 99% RAM that isn't specifically listed will work.

Well thanks a ton for the info! I have never used newegg before but i hear theyre good. If for some reason im the unlucky 1% would there be some sort of return/money back if it didnt work out? I would hate to drop $87 and it doesnt work and im screwed on what to do with it. :p

I'm from Aus so i'm not sure of newegg's return policy, you'll have to check out the policy on their website, but since the Crucial site lists it as compatible I don't see why it should be a problem.
