If she installed it onto a computer, set it up, activated it, etc. in the UK, then handed you the computer to use in the UK, not that I am aware of. If you / she are outside of the country of purchase then yes the software determines location and doesn't allow that to install (due to International Software / Shipment regulations and TAXation laws) / be used (for example purchased UK Windows attempted to install on a US Dell computer in Thailand would cause the red flags to go off on the computer / software as this is normally obvious 'piracy').
The problem lays that if ANYTHING with Windows occurs (needs to check her student ID, validation of install, etc.) and she is not around to 'deal' with it, your hosed up. Physically the user 'at the keyboard' isn't the issue, it is just to ensure only legitimate purchasers are being given these deep discounted software.
